🏮 Event Recap

Earlier this month, we had the joy of welcoming families, students, and neighbors from across the community to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival through two unforgettable lantern-making workshops filled with light, laughter, and cultural storytelling.

🐇 Jade Rabbit Lantern Workshop

This family-friendly session was a hit with elementary-aged children and their families. Together, we explored the history and symbolism of lanterns in Mid-Autumn traditions. Participants began by sketching traditional patterns onto xuan paper (宣纸), painting them with ink and brush, and then constructing their own lantern frames from popsicle sticks. After gluing their artwork to the frames, attaching bamboo handles, and placing lights inside, their creations came to life—glowing beautifully in their hands.

🌛 Moon Artisan Lantern Workshop

In our more advanced session for teens and adults, participants used carving knives to cut out delicate shapes like flowers, teapots, and more. These intricate designs were then assembled into handcrafted lanterns. As night fell, we stepped outside and turned on our lanterns together—lighting up the evening sky with dozens of warm, handmade lights.ds on Practice

🍵 Tea and Mooncake Time

Throughout both workshops, we shared mooncakes and enjoyed a variety of traditional Chinese teas—red, herbal, jasmine, and yellow—offering moments of connection and conversation.
